For most people there is a clear understanding of what is meant by physical health and fitness. People are used to talking about their physical health, when they feel ill and even about getting fit. This level of open discussion is not generally in place with regards to mental health. Most people are not happy to discuss difficult issues such as depression or anxiety, through to more clinical conditions.
Mental health refers to an individual's emotional and psychological well-being. "A state of emotional and psychological well-being in which an individual is able to use his or her cognitive and emotional capabilities, function in society, and meet the ordinary demands of everyday life." |
